What Is Caverta Sildenafil?

Caverta sildenafil is a generic medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, which works to relax the blood vessels in the penis. This allows more blood to flow to the penis, making it easier to get an erection. Caverta sildenafil is also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

Dosage and Direction

The recommended dosage for Caverta sildenafil is 25 mg taken orally, with or without food, as needed. The dosage may be increased to 50 mg or decreased to 25 mg depending on effectiveness and side effects. The maximum recommended dosage of Caverta sildenafil is 100 mg per day.

Precautions

Before taking Caverta sildenafil, tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:

• Heart problems such as heart attack, irregular heartbeat, angina, or chest pain;
• High or low blood pressure;
• Liver or kidney disease;
• Stroke;
• Blood cell problems such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia;

Contraindications

Caverta sildenafil should not be used if you are allergic to sildenafil or any of the other ingredients in the medication. It should also not be used if you have recently taken nitrates (medications used to treat chest pain).

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects of Caverta sildenafil include headaches, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, and dizziness. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Rarely, serious side effects may occur, such as an erection that lasts for more than four hours, sudden loss of vision, or sudden decrease or loss of hearing. If these effects occur, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Drug Interaction

Caverta sildenafil may interact with some medications. Before taking Caverta sildenafil, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following medications:

• Prescription or nonprescription medications containing nitrates (such as nitroglycerin);
• HIV protease inhibitors (such as ritonavir);
• Cimetidine;
• Erythromycin;
• Rifampin; or
• Alpha blockers (such as doxazosin).

This list is not complete and other medications may interact with Caverta sildenafil. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medications you are taking.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Caverta sildenafil, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Overdose

If you think you have overdosed on Caverta sildenafil, contact your doctor or local poison control center immediately. Symptoms of an overdose may include dizziness, fainting, and chest pain.

Storage

Store Caverta sildenafil at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep it out of the reach of children.
